My family and I didn't know a lot about the US college admissions process because no one in my family had gone through it before. Ms. Shelor really helped me figure out what I needed to focus on and how to manage my time. Time management, especially with long processes like college applications, is not my strong suit. With Ms. Shelor and the programs she provided I really felt on top of a lot of things and ahead of most of my classmates when it came to applications. Ms Shelor also worked with me through the tough decisions during a period of personal turmoil for me and my family. I can happily say with her help I got into my top choice school!

The college admissions process is a huge time commitment, but with Pamela I was able to knock out my essays early to help me better focus on academics and activities during senior year. Her advice was always geared toward my success, and she helped me make sure that all aspects of my applications were just right. The Common App essay writing was difficult, but the WOW Writing program that Pamela used really helped me get into the right headspace for writing. Not only did Pamela help me work through applications during the fall of senior year, but she also referred me to an industry professional whom I interned with over the summer! I was very insecure about starting the process, I didn't know how to write my Common App essay or which schools to look for when applying. Mrs. Shelor  helped me find out which schools would be good fits for me. She also really helped with my essays, giving me a step-by-step process to complete the Common App and checking over my supplemental to make sure they were concise. I can use the techniques I gained from this experience in any other applications I decided to do, applying to a job or any program within college. Senior year can be very stressful and getting some of the college application parts out of the way early like the Common App essay really helped me. Having someone with experience looking over my work was also very reassuring.

 I was feeling very overwhelmed because this was the first time anyone in my family did a process like this in the US. The planning and executing parts of the application were the most daunting and confusing for me personally. The college application process has always seemed very overwhelming to me. I was fortunate enough to have my parents connect me with Mrs. Shelor to help ease the stress and confusion, which was only elevated due to the pandemic.
